Penn State Fayette’s Athletic Appreciation Event celebrates two PSUAC champions

The students, staff, and faculty at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus showed their support for the school’s athletic teams at an Athletic Appreciation Event, held Nov. 30 in the Community Center.

Speakers included Chancellor and Chief Academic Officer Dr. Charles Patrick, Athletic Director Lou Zadecky, and the two coaches who led their teams to Penn State University Athletic Conference (PSUAC) championships this fall.

Flanked by her Women’s Volleyball team members, many of whom are seniors, Nancy Wheeler became emotional when speaking about the season and how much she would miss those who were graduating. Holding back tears, she concluded her remarks by saying that she loved each of the women.

Next on stage were Joe Carei, the Cross Country coach, and his group of athletes. Carei reminisced on their inaugural season, which was filled with injuries that, miraculously, healed in time for the team to pull out a PSUAC tournament victory.

Following the program came lots of back-slapping, hand-shaking, congratulating—and eating a piece of the chocolate and vanilla cakes baked in honor of the dedication and talent of Penn State Fayette’s triumphant student athletes.
