Adult Learner Program (ALP)

Adult Learner Program (ALP)

If you have been out of school for some time, you earned a GED, or you are unsure of whether you received proper academic preparation to attend college, we have a program just for you to help you develop the fundamental skills necessary to be successful in a degree program at Penn State Fayette!

The Adult Learner Program (ALP), a partnership between Penn State and the PA Intermediate Unit 1 office, provides formal instruction designed to develop college-level reading, writing, and math skills. You can participate in the ALP program at no cost to you for the semester prior to becoming a degree-seeking student at Penn State Fayette. During the ALP program you will also work with a Penn State Fayette admissions counselor to submit your admissions application.

If you have further questions or would like to schedule an appointment, please contact Admissions at 724-430-4130 or at

Adult Learners: Apply as a Undecided Conditional or Non-Degree Student

Students who do not meet traditional admission requirements may still be eligible to attend Penn State.

Undecided Conditional Student

First-year students who do not meet our traditional admission requirements may apply for admission in an undecided conditional status. This type of admission provides an opportunity for degree-seeking students who show motivation for success in college. Students who are admitted as undecided conditional are eligible to apply for student financial aid.

Undecided conditional students must show the potential for success through their high school record and an on-campus interview. Adult students may also submit a GED for consideration. Students who are admitted as undecided conditional students are required to complete the Adult Leaner Program offered on campus. The ALP provides formal instruction designed to develop college-level reading, writing, and math skills.

After successfully completing 18 credits, students may apply for degree status through our online application. Students must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.00. Students may not remain in provisional status beyond a total of 36 credits. All provisional students are advised through our Advising and Career Center.

For more information about attending as an undecided conditional student, contact our Admissions Office at 724-430-4130.

Non-Degree Student

Students who are not eligible for admission to degree programs may take courses as a non-degree, non-matriculated student. Financial aid is not available to students in this status. Students who successfully complete 18 or more credits with a cumulative GPA of 2.00 may apply for degree status.

For more information about attending as a non-degree student, contact our Registration Office at 724-430-4130.
