Penn State Laureate to speak at Fayette campus

Rebecca Strzelec, professor of visual arts at Penn State Altoona and the 2016-2017 Penn State Laureate, will present “Art + Engineering = Creative Problem Solving” at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus at 12:15 p.m. on March 27. The Penn State Laureate is an annual faculty honor established in 2008 to bring greater visibility to the arts, the humanities, the honoree’s work, and the University through a statewide tour of the Commonwealth Campuses.

Teens compete for Pi (and pie) at Fayette campus

Dozens of honors students from Laurel Highlands and Yough high schools demonstrated they were hungry for a win (and a slice of pie) at the annual Pi Day competition at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, where their mathematics aptitude, as well as their ability to work cooperatively, were tested as they attempted to solve challenging problems.

Fayette campus to hold situational awareness training

The Center for Community and Public Safety (CCPS) at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus and the Fayette County Juvenile Probation Department will co-host The Competitive Edge, a course for law enforcement and other professionals whose jobs require them to deal with offenders. This program will take place from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on May 12 in the Maggie Hardy Magerko Auditorium within the campus Community Center.

Alumni society's Penn State Berkey Creamery ice cream fundraiser in progress

The 2017 spring ice cream sale is under way at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus. This annual sale, organized by the Penn State Fayette Alumni Society, offers an opportunity for the community to enjoy the famous Penn State Berkey Creamery’s favorite ice cream flavors without a trip to State College or shipping costs. All proceeds benefit the local campus and community initiatives of the Penn State Fayette Alumni Society.

Fayette campus to hold event for community

The Community Interaction Association, a student group at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, invites the public to its second annual Community Day from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. on April 15. This family-oriented and kid-friendly event will feature an Easter-egg hunt, a Chinese auction, a bounce house, face painting, and a basket raffle. Entertainment will be provided by balloon artist Mike the Balloon Guy and DJ Johnny Marco. Hot food from the Stonehouse will be available for purchase. Also, local businesses and organizations will be on hand to offer resources and provide awareness.

Ades, Parkinson, Prettyman named 2017 Penn State Teaching Fellows

Sarah Ades, associate professor of biochemistry and molecular biology in the Eberly College of Science; Matthew Parkinson, associate professor of engineering design and mechanical engineering in the College of Engineering; and Gib Prettyman, associate professor of English at Penn State Fayette; have received the Alumni/Student Award for Excellence in Teaching and have been named 2017 Penn State Teaching Fellows.

Fayette campus offering free life-saving course

As part of a nationwide initiative to teach bystanders how to provide immediate care to prevent blood loss and improve survival from traumatic injuries, Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus will offer the Stop the Bleed course from 6 to 9 p.m. April 26. Participants will learn how to stop bleeding by using dressings, compression, and tourniquets. This course is open to emergency responders, law enforcement officers, school personnel, and the general public.
