Nearly two decades have passed since the dedication of Penn State Fayette’s iconic carillon tower. Erected as part of the 40th anniversary celebration, the tower features 19 bells cast in France and integrated with U.S. electronic technology. This $180,000 project was generously funded by donors, each contributing $10,000 for a bell bearing their name.
Gregory Gray, who served as chief executive officer and chancellor of Penn State Fayette from 1998 to 2006, envisioned the tower as a feature that would help solidify the school’s unique identity. Gray inaugurated the tower with a dedication ceremony in 2005.
Observant students might have noticed in recent years that the bells have stopped ringing due to technical difficulties. The Verdin Company restored the landmark to its former glory in May 2023.
