Advisers in the Student Success Center use Starfish for scheduling all advising appointments. For help scheduling an appointment, see the tutorial Students–Starfish (psu.edu).
If your assigned adviser does not have appointments available in Starfish, we recommend emailing them to request an appointment. See sample emails and other recommendations below to ensure you are communicating professionally.
Email recommendations:
- Always use your PennState student email address to communicate with faculty and staff.
- Be sure to always include a greeting, signature, and your student information (name and ID if possible). Create an email signature including your name and student ID number so you do not have to type this with every email you send.
- Provide as much information as possible about your needs or questions.
Sample Email:
Hello Dr. Smith,
I am Sarah John, one of your advisees, and I would like to schedule an advising appointment to talk about a schedule for the upcoming semester. Could you please let me know what your availability is for this week or next week? I look forward to meeting with you soon.
