LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — The Office of Outreach and Continuing Education at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus will offer a variety of educational enrichment camps and other academic programs for children and youths this summer.
Kids in College is a program for first- through third-graders that will be held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily during the week of July 10. Classes are to focus on one topic each day: art, national treasures, science, world culture and kitchen chemistry.
Children in grades five through eight may attend a separate Kids in College program from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. throughout the week of June 26. The instructor will cover one topic each day: world and American cultures, computer/media, drama or chemistry.
Tuition for either Kids in College program is $149 weekly or $49 daily.
Students in third through sixth grades have a choice of three Science and Robotics camps, held from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, either June 26–30, July 17–21, or July 24–28. Classes for the first two camps will include Creating Video Games from Scratch I and Junior Robotics Academy I, while the July 24 camp will feature Creating Video Games from Scratch II and Junior Robotics Academy II. The fee for each week is $149.
Ninth through 12th graders may attend STEM career camp from June 26–30 or July 17–21. These camps, which run from 8:30 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. daily, will concentrate on science, technology, engineering and mathematics. There will be no fee for this camp, through the sponsorship of Chevron Corp. Students will have the opportunity to learn from Penn State Fayette faculty and industry representatives and apply their newfound knowledge in hands-on activities.
Students in 10th, 11th or 12th grade will be able to attend a SAT prep course from August 7–11. Classes are to take place from 9 a.m. to noon or 1 to 4 p.m. The fee, which includes a textbook, is $149 for either the morning or afternoon session. Repeat courses are reduced to $69.
New this year are Discovery Camps and Sports Camps.
The Discovery Camps cost $149 a week and will take place between 10 a.m. and 3 p.m. on July 10–14 for seventh- to ninth-graders, and between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on July 24–28 for students in grades five to eight. The first week will feature computer-aided drafting and design, Lego Mindstorm, and 3-D printers, while the second will offer crime scene investigation.
Sports Camps for girls’ and boys’ basketball, cross country, and softball will be instructed by Penn State Fayette Athletic Department coaches and staff.
Girls’ basketball camp for ages 9–12 is scheduled between 9 a.m. and noon on June 19–22 and costs $50. For those aged 13–17, there will be sessions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and this fee is $100.
Boys’ basketball camp for ages 9–12 is scheduled between 9 a.m. and noon on June 26–29 and costs $50. For those aged 13–17, there will be sessions from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., and this fee is $100.
A cross-country camp will take place between 8:30 a.m. and 5 p.m. on June 28 and will cost $45. This is for participants from 13–17 years old.
A softball camp for girls between 14 and 17 years of age is scheduled from noon until 6 p.m. on July 17–20.
