IT Frequently Asked Questions

What is a Penn State Account and how do I get one?
Your Penn State Account allows you to access technology resources like computers, library resources and the Penn State network. You will need to have a Penn State Account to use the computers on campus, to check grades, register for classes, or check books out of the library. To create an account, go to https://accounts.psu.edu and choose “Create my Account”.

How do I change my password?
If you forget your Penn State Account password or if you would like to change your password, go to https://accounts.psu.edu and choose the option to change or reset your password.

I have a personal email address. Can I forward my Penn State email to that account?
You can change your forwarding address by logging into the https://accounts.psu.edu site and selecting “Email Settings”. Keep in mind that some of your instructors may require that you use your Penn State email address (and not your other email address) when submitting assignments. While you can forward your email, it is strongly recommended that you keep your Penn State email separate from other email accounts by using Outlook (see checking your Penn State email below).

My Access Account does not work. What should I do?
Double check that you are entering your username and password correctly (e.g., is CAPS lock on). If it still does not work, see the IT Staff in Eberly 107, or call the IT Service Desk at 724-430-4163.

How can I check my Penn State email?
You can access your email from the web by accessing the website, https://office365.psu.edu.

Can I install my own programs on the machines in the computer lab?
No. Because of copyright and licensing restrictions, students may not download and install programs in the computer labs.

How can I save my work I do in the computer lab?
You can save your work to a USB removable drive, to your PASS space, or to OneDrive (Microsoft Office 365 cloud storage)

See the IT Support staff to investigate the best option for you.

How can I get a copy of my schedule, grades, or transcript? Can I pay my bill online?

You can access this information online using LionPATH . You can access LionPATH from any computer in the computer lab or your personal computer.

I have my own laptop. Can I use it on campus?
Yes. Students with Wi-Fi-enabled laptops can access the Penn State wireless network on campus. You will need to install the Penn State Secure W2 software by connecting to the “psuwirelesssetup” network to gain access to the network. Assistance with setting up your computer to use the wireless network is available at the IT Support Center in Eberly 107 or at the web site http://wireless.psu.edu/

I heard that we could get free software. Where do I go for my free software?
