Scholarships to be Awarded

Five scholarships will be awarded every year in the amount of $2,000 each. The scholarships are renewable annually for up to 3 years, if renewal qualifications are met. Scholarship recipients must matriculate as a first-year to Penn State Fayette and be enrolled full-time. Scholarships may also be renewed if the recipient transfers from Penn State Fayette to Penn State University Park to complete his or her degree, so long as the recipient continues to meet eligibility requirements.

Eligibility

  1. Applicant must be one of the following:
    • Resident of Fayette County, PA
    • Resident of Preston County, WV
    • Graduate of Turkeyfoot Secondary School, Somerset County, PA
  2. Applicant must have a demonstrated financial need for funds to meet necessary college expenses, which is presently determined by the FAFSA.
  3. Applicant must have and maintain a minimum grade-point average of 2.5.

Desireable Personal Accomplishments

Applicant should demonstrate:

  • Effective participation in extracurricular activities
  • Community involvement
  • Respectable work history

Application Procedure

Application must be submitted on or before March 15.

Selection of Scholarship Winners

Applicants are scored in each of the following categories by the scholarship selection committee. Scores are analyzed statistically and scholarships will be awarded accordingly:

  • Extracurricular Activities–Have these activities helped you become a more well-rounded person?
  • Community Involvement–What have you done to help people in your community?
  • Field of Study–Will your field of study allow you to directly benefit your home area?
  • Work History–Unpaid work for family and others is considered a part of your work history.
  • Communication Skills–How well do you communicate with others?
  • Academic Accomplishment–Have you achieved at least a 2.5 cumulative GPA (on a 4.0 scale).
  • Academic Potential–Do your ACT, SAT, and other test scores, combined with your academic performance, show that you are ready for the next stage of your education?
  • Overall Impression–This is for raters to assess the probability of your success in college.
