LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus honored 34 graduates from the fifth cohort of the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program on May 6 in the first in-person pinning ceremony since 2019.
The traditional pinning ceremony invites each student’s honored guest to place an official pin on his or her lapel while the student’s personal statement of gratitude is read.
Vickie Leone, vice president of clinical operations for UPMC Home Health Care, Fayette, served as the keynote speaker. Gwyneth Komula and Madison Yezek were selected by their classmates as student representatives for the event.
“This was an evening of celebration to recognize the nursing students for their many accomplishments during an unprecedented time,” said Melissa Miner, associate teaching professor in the Ross and Carol Nese College of Nursing and campus coordinator for nursing. “This graduating class endured unique healthcare challenges while meeting nursing course and clinical objectives through pioneering teaching and learning strategies such as theory delivered via zoom, alternative clinical assignments, and in-person clinical while wearing a P-100 mask.”
