Penn State Fayette to screen film on race and bias, 'American Textures'

LEMONT FURNACE, Pa. — Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus will screen "American Textures," a documentary on race, on Tuesday, Sept. 18 at noon in Swimmer Hall.

Released in 2014, "American Textures" follows six young Americans on a road trip through the South to confront race through dialogue. Their journey allows them to share and explore their diverse experiences of race in today’s America and to address the presence of segregation and biases in society and within themselves.

According to Crossing Borders Films, the project’s non-profit production company, the film "responds to the deep racial divisions that shape the daily life of American society. It is designed as a Community Social Engagement Project that actively supports the creation of intercultural dialogues and the growth of interracial empathy.”

Following the film screening, Jonathan Santos, one of the film’s stars, will facilitate an open dialogue. This event is sponsored by the Coalition for Equity and is open to the community. For more information on "American Textures," visit http://cb-films.org/americantextures.
