Several miners are taking advantage of Penn State's two-year associate degree at Penn State Fayette Campus — and perks from their employer CONSOL Energy — to advance to senior leadership. Mining is a field that struggles to graduate the number of engineers needed to advance an industry that the federal government has deemed vital to domestic interests for a slew of areas that need rare earth elements and critical minerals. The program relies on expertise from Penn State's 134-year-old program.

The W. Charles and Martha Patrick Excellence Fund at Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus, initially established as a program endowment with a $25,000 commitment from the Patricks, can now be converted to a scholarship endowment through more than $25,000 in additional gifts from anonymous individuals, alumni and friends.
