Do you have a history of addiction recovery and want to help others?
The Certified Recovery Specialist (CRS) /Certified Family Recovery Specialist (CFRS) training consists of 78 hours of education; 66 in class hours and 12 hours of online homework. Participants must meet all of the Pennsylvania Certification Board requirements which include:
- High school diploma or GED
- Successful completion of the Certified Recovery Specialist/ Certified Family Recovery Specialist–78 Hour Training Curriculum
- 18 months of sustained personal lived recovery OR history of lived experience directly impacted by family member or loved one’s substance use disorder
- 1000 word statement describing personal lived experience with addiction and recovery and history of sustained recovery OR lived experience of being impacted by family member or loved one’s substance use disorder
- Application to the Pennsylvania Certification Board, payment of fee, and successful completion of the CRS exam – no exam required for CRFS
- Signing of an ethical code of conduct
- CRFS requires 3 letters of reference

Technology Requirements
Participants in the training must:
- Be comfortable with computers, computer application and other technology.
- Be able to complete online homework (12 hours).
- Have access to a laptop or desktop device. Mobile devices such as tablets and smartphones cannot be used.
Dates: September 1 to November 10, 2023
Location: Penn State Fayette, The Eberly Campus
Time: Every Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. (one hour for lunch)
